Slip-on flange
Forged flange that slides over the pipe and is fillet welded, easier to align than a weld neck flange.
In short
Forged flange that slides over the pipe and is fillet welded, easier to align than a weld neck flange. JJ Projects sources it to the specification the buyer names. Typical reference, standards: ASME B16.5.
Specification references
Typical references only. The governing specification is the one on your purchase order or datasheet.
| Property | Typical reference |
|---|---|
| Standards | ASME B16.5 |
| Materials | ASTM A105, A182 (alloy and stainless) |
| Face | Raised face or flat face |
| Class | As specified in ASME B16.5 for the size |
Specification references describe what the order names, not a certification held by JJ Projects.

Typical uses
- 01Water, air, cooling and other utility piping
- 02Low and moderate pressure process lines where the piping specification permits slip-on flanges
- 03Joints where easy alignment matters during fit-up
- 04Connections to flat-face equipment flanges, using flat-face slip-ons
What to include in a request
A request with these details can be quoted without a round of questions. Send what you have and we will ask for the rest.
- 01NPS and pressure class under ASME B16.5
- 02Facing: raised face or flat face
- 03Material and grade, for example ASTM A105 or A182 F304L
- 04Pipe outside diameter or NPS, since the bore is larger than the pipe it slides over
- 05Quantity
- 06Documents: material test report and any marking requirement
- 07Confirm the piping specification allows slip-on flanges for the service

Questions
Questions
01Can slip-on flanges be used in any service?
Not always. Many piping specifications restrict slip-on flanges by pressure class, temperature or fluid, and prefer weld neck flanges for severe, cyclic or hazardous service. Check your piping class before ordering.
02How is a slip-on flange welded to the pipe?
The pipe is inserted into the flange and joined with fillet welds, normally at the hub and at the face side as the welding procedure requires. Weld details belong to your fabrication procedure, not to the flange order.
