Blind flange
Solid flange with no bore, used to close the end of a line, nozzle or valve.
In short
Solid flange with no bore, used to close the end of a line, nozzle or valve. JJ Projects sources it to the specification the buyer names. Typical reference, standards: ASME B16.5 (to NPS 24), ASME B16.47 (larger sizes).
Specification references
Typical references only. The governing specification is the one on your purchase order or datasheet.
| Property | Typical reference |
|---|---|
| Standards | ASME B16.5 (to NPS 24), ASME B16.47 (larger sizes) |
| Materials | ASTM A105, A182 (alloy and stainless) |
| Class and face | Class 150 to 2500; raised face or ring-type joint |
Specification references describe what the order names, not a certification held by JJ Projects.

Typical uses
- 01Closing the end of a line, a spare nozzle or a valve
- 02Provision for future expansion, kept blanked until needed
- 03Pressure testing of piping systems and equipment
- 04Closing manway and inspection nozzles where the design uses a flanged cover
What to include in a request
A request with these details can be quoted without a round of questions. Send what you have and we will ask for the rest.
- 01NPS and pressure class
- 02Standard: ASME B16.5 up to NPS 24, ASME B16.47 Series A or B above that
- 03Facing: raised face or ring-type joint, with the groove type if ring-type joint
- 04Material and grade, for example ASTM A105 or A182 F316L, plus any low-temperature requirement
- 05Quantity, and whether any need drilled and tapped holes or a lifting lug
- 06Documents: material test report and marking requirements

Questions
Questions
01Does a blind flange need a pipe schedule?
No. A blind flange has no bore, so only the NPS, pressure class, facing and material are needed. Its thickness follows the standard for the size and class.
02Can I use a blind flange to isolate a line for work on equipment?
A blind flange closes the end of a line. Isolation for maintenance is governed by your site isolation procedure, which may call for a spectacle blind or a spade as well. Follow that procedure, not the flange alone.
