Equal tee
Butt-weld tee with run and branch of the same size, used for branch connections in process piping.
In short
Butt-weld tee with run and branch of the same size, used for branch connections in process piping. JJ Projects sources it to the specification the buyer names. Typical reference, standards: ASME B16.9.
Specification references
Typical references only. The governing specification is the one on your purchase order or datasheet.
| Property | Typical reference |
|---|---|
| Standards | ASME B16.9 |
| Materials | ASTM A234 WPB (carbon), A403 (stainless) |
| End connections | Beveled ends for butt welding |
| Size | NPS and wall schedule to match the pipe |
Specification references describe what the order names, not a certification held by JJ Projects.

- 02Headers and manifolds in process and utility piping
- 03Instrument and sample take-offs on large lines
- 04Stainless and alloy piping in corrosive service
What to include in a request
A request with these details can be quoted without a round of questions. Send what you have and we will ask for the rest.
- 01NPS of the run and the branch, equal for this item, and the wall thickness or schedule
- 02Material and grade, for example ASTM A234 WPB or A403 WP304L
- 03Seamless or welded construction, if the specification allows both
- 04End preparation: bevel to ASME B16.25 unless stated otherwise
- 05Quantity
- 06Documents: material test report and any examination or marking requirement

Questions
Questions
01How do I order a tee with a smaller branch?
That is a reducing tee. Give it as run size by run size by branch size, for example NPS 6 x 6 x 4, with the wall thickness for each end. This page covers the equal tee, where run and branch have the same NPS.
02Is a tee the only way to make a branch connection?
No. Branch connections can also be made with forged branch fittings or by welding a branch pipe to the run with reinforcement. The piping class and design code decide which method applies to each line.
