Butt-weld tee with run and branch of the same size, used for branch connections in process piping.

**In short:** Butt-weld tee with run and branch of the same size, used for branch connections in process piping. JJ Projects sources it to the specification the buyer names. Typical reference, standards: ASME B16.9.

## Specification references

- Standards: ASME B16.9
- Materials: ASTM A234 WPB (carbon), A403 (stainless)
- End connections: Beveled ends for butt welding
- Size: NPS and wall schedule to match the pipe

> Typical references only. The governing specification is the one on your purchase order or datasheet.

## Typical uses

- Branch connections where a line splits in two directions
- Headers and manifolds in process and utility piping
- Instrument and sample take-offs on large lines
- Stainless and alloy piping in corrosive service

## What to include in a request

A request with these details can be quoted without a round of questions. Send what you have and we will ask for the rest.

1. NPS of the run and the branch, equal for this item, and the wall thickness or schedule
2. Material and grade, for example ASTM A234 WPB or A403 WP304L
3. Seamless or welded construction, if the specification allows both
4. End preparation: bevel to ASME B16.25 unless stated otherwise
5. Quantity
6. Documents: material test report and any examination or marking requirement

## Questions

### How do I order a tee with a smaller branch?

That is a reducing tee. Give it as run size by run size by branch size, for example NPS 6 x 6 x 4, with the wall thickness for each end. This page covers the equal tee, where run and branch have the same NPS.

### Is a tee the only way to make a branch connection?

No. Branch connections can also be made with forged branch fittings or by welding a branch pipe to the run with reinforcement. The piping class and design code decide which method applies to each line.
