Needle valve
Small valve with a tapered stem and fine thread for precise control of low flows, common on instrument lines.
In short
Small valve with a tapered stem and fine thread for precise control of low flows, common on instrument lines. JJ Projects sources it to the specification the buyer names. Typical reference, materials: Forged carbon steel (ASTM A105) or stainless steel (ASTM A182 F316).
Specification references
Typical references only. The governing specification is the one on your purchase order or datasheet.
| Property | Typical reference |
|---|---|
| Materials | Forged carbon steel (ASTM A105) or stainless steel (ASTM A182 F316) |
| End connections | NPT, socket-weld or tube fitting ends |
| Rating | Pressure and temperature rating per the manufacturer's data sheet |
Specification references describe what the order names, not a certification held by JJ Projects.

What to include in a request
A request with these details can be quoted without a round of questions. Send what you have and we will ask for the rest.
- 01Size and end connections, for example 1/2 in NPT female by female, socket-weld or tube fitting ends
- 02Body and trim material, for example ASTM A105 carbon steel or A182 F316 stainless
- 03Pressure and temperature rating needed, checked against the manufacturer's data sheet
- 04Pattern: straight or angle
- 05Packing and seal material suitable for the fluid and temperature
- 06Sour service or special cleaning requirement, for example oxygen service
- 07Quantity, and the documents required such as a material test report

Questions
Questions
01What is the difference between a needle valve and a globe valve?
A needle valve has a long tapered stem and a small orifice with a fine thread, so it adjusts low flows precisely. A globe valve is larger and built for line sizes and higher flow. Needle valves are common on instrument lines.
02Is a needle valve suitable for isolation?
Yes for small instrument and sample lines, when the rating fits. Check the pressure and temperature rating on the manufacturer's data sheet, because ratings differ by body material, packing and size.
