Wide-flange beam
Rolled I-shape section for frames, pipe racks, platforms and supports.
In short
Rolled I-shape section for frames, pipe racks, platforms and supports. JJ Projects sources it to the specification the buyer names. Typical reference, standards: ASTM A992, A36; general requirements ASTM A6/A6M.
Specification references
Typical references only. The governing specification is the one on your purchase order or datasheet.
| Property | Typical reference |
|---|---|
| Standards | ASTM A992, A36; general requirements ASTM A6/A6M |
| Series | W shapes; HEA and IPE European sections on request |
| Size | Depth, weight per length and length as specified |
| Documents | Material test report on request, such as EN 10204 type 3.1 |
Specification references describe what the order names, not a certification held by JJ Projects.

Typical uses
- 01Primary framing for buildings, equipment structures and platforms
- 02Pipe racks and pipe supports
- 03Beams and columns for skids, modules and equipment foundations
- 04Crane rails and runway beams where the design calls for them
What to include in a request
A request with these details can be quoted without a round of questions. Send what you have and we will ask for the rest.
- 01Section designation, for example W12x26, or HEA 200 and IPE 300 for European sections
- 02Grade: ASTM A992 for most W shapes, A36 where the design allows, or EN 10025 grades such as S275 or S355 for European sections
- 03Length of each member and the quantity, in pieces or tons
- 04Fabrication if needed: cuts, copes, drilled holes, end plates
- 05Finish: black, primed or hot-dip galvanized
- 06Tolerances or general requirements, for example ASTM A6/A6M
- 07Documents: material test report with heat numbers

Questions
Questions
01What does W12x26 mean?
A W shape is named by its nominal depth in inches and its weight per foot of length in pounds. W12x26 is a wide-flange beam about 12 in deep that weighs 26 lb per foot. The actual depth is close to, but not exactly, the nominal figure.
02What is the difference between ASTM A992 and A36 for W beams?
ASTM A992 is the usual specification for rolled W shapes in structural work and has a minimum yield of 50 ksi (345 MPa). ASTM A36 has a minimum yield of 36 ksi (250 MPa). The structural engineer sets the grade for each member.
03Can you supply European HEA and IPE sections?
Yes, on request. Give the designation, the steel grade such as S355 and the length. European and American sections have different depths and weights, so they are not direct substitutes without the engineer's approval.
Send the specification. We will take it from there.
