Steel plate
Carbon, alloy and stainless plate cut to size for tanks, vessels, structures and fabrication.
In short
Carbon, alloy and stainless plate cut to size for tanks, vessels, structures and fabrication. JJ Projects sources it to the specification the buyer names. Typical reference, standards: ASTM A36, A516 Grade 70, A240.
Specification references
Typical references only. The governing specification is the one on your purchase order or datasheet.
| Property | Typical reference |
|---|---|
| Standards | ASTM A36, A516 Grade 70, A240 |
| Forms | Plate and sheet, cut to size |
| Size | Thickness, width and length as specified on the order |
| Documents | Material test report on request, such as EN 10204 type 3.1 |
Specification references describe what the order names, not a certification held by JJ Projects.

Typical uses
- 01Shells, heads and nozzle pads for tanks and pressure vessels
- 02Base plates, gussets and fabricated structural parts
- 03Stainless linings and wetted parts where corrosion resistance is needed
- 04Parts cut to a drawing for skids, supports and equipment frames
What to include in a request
A request with these details can be quoted without a round of questions. Send what you have and we will ask for the rest.
- 01Specification and grade, for example ASTM A516 Grade 70 or A240 Type 316L
- 02Thickness, width and length for each plate, or the cut-to-size drawing
- 03Delivery condition if it matters: normalized, as-rolled, annealed or pickled
- 04Extra tests the design needs: impact (Charpy) testing, ultrasonic examination, through-thickness properties
- 05Surface and edge requirements, and whether plate is cut, beveled or left as rolled
- 06Quantity by pieces or total weight
- 07Documents: material test report, for example EN 10204 type 3.1, tied to heat numbers

Questions
Questions
01What is the difference between A36 and A516 Grade 70 plate?
ASTM A36 is a general structural carbon steel plate with a minimum yield of 36 ksi (250 MPa). ASTM A516 Grade 70 is a pressure vessel plate for moderate and lower temperature service, with a minimum yield of 38 ksi and a higher tensile range. Your design code and engineer decide which one applies.
02Can plate be supplied cut to size?
Yes. State the finished dimensions or send the cutting drawing, with the grade and thickness. Cutting method and edge condition, such as plasma-cut or beveled, should be written into the request.
03How do I get traceability for the plate?
Ask for a material test report that lists the heat number, chemistry and mechanical properties, and ask that each plate is marked with its heat number. The type of report, such as EN 10204 3.1, goes on the purchase order.
Send the specification. We will take it from there.
