Equal angle
L-shaped rolled section with legs of equal length for bracing, supports and light framing.
In short
L-shaped rolled section with legs of equal length for bracing, supports and light framing. JJ Projects sources it to the specification the buyer names. Typical reference, standards: ASTM A36; general requirements ASTM A6/A6M.
Specification references
Typical references only. The governing specification is the one on your purchase order or datasheet.
| Property | Typical reference |
|---|---|
| Standards | ASTM A36; general requirements ASTM A6/A6M |
| Form | Hot-rolled angle, equal legs |
| Size | Leg length, thickness and length as specified |
| Documents | Material test report on request, such as EN 10204 type 3.1 |
Specification references describe what the order names, not a certification held by JJ Projects.

- 03Frames and edge trim for platforms, grating and cover plates
- 04Brackets, lintels and stiffeners in fabrication
What to include in a request
A request with these details can be quoted without a round of questions. Send what you have and we will ask for the rest.
- 01Size as leg x leg x thickness, for example L4x4x1/4, or the metric equivalent
- 02Grade, commonly ASTM A36, with the general requirements of ASTM A6/A6M
- 03Length per piece and total quantity in pieces or tons
- 04Cuts, holes, mitres or other fabrication
- 05Finish: black, primed or hot-dip galvanized
- 06Documents: material test report with heat numbers

Questions
Questions
01How is the size of an angle written?
By the two leg lengths and the thickness, for example L4x4x1/4 for a 4 in by 4 in angle that is 1/4 in thick. For an unequal angle, both different leg lengths are listed, such as L5x3x1/2.
02What if my drawing calls for an unequal angle?
Unequal angles are a different catalogue shape with legs of different lengths. State the long leg first and the thickness, and say which leg is horizontal if it matters to the fabrication.
