What to include in a request
A request with these details can be quoted without a round of questions. Send what you have and we will ask for the rest.
- 01Height in rack units (U), where one U is 44.45 mm, and the width, 19-inch mounting per EIA-310
- 02Depth, taking the longest equipment and cable bend room into account
- 03Load capacity the rack must carry, static and rolling
- 04Type: open frame, two or four post, or enclosed cabinet with doors and side panels
- 05Door style, ventilation or cooling, locks and cable entry points
- 06Accessories: shelves, rails, PDUs, blanking panels, cable managers and grounding

Questions
Questions
01What is a rack unit?
A rack unit, written U, is a vertical space of 44.45 mm, or 1.75 in. Equipment is described by how many U it takes, so a 42U rack holds equipment totaling up to 42U in height.
02Is the 19 inches the size of the rack?
No. The 19 inches is the spacing of the mounting rails that hold the equipment, per EIA-310. The outside width of the rack is larger. Give the depth you need, because depth varies more between racks than width.
03How do I plan cooling?
Check the heat load of the equipment and the airflow direction it uses, and leave blanking panels and cable room so air moves freely. Enclosed cabinets can include fans or be sized for the room cooling. State your equipment so the cabinet can be matched.
Send the specification. We will take it from there.
