Centrifugal pump
Process pump that moves liquid by impeller rotation, supplied to a datasheet.
In short
Process pump that moves liquid by impeller rotation, supplied to a datasheet. JJ Projects sources it to the specification the buyer names. Typical reference, standards: API 610 (petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas), ASME B73.1 (chemical process).
Specification references
Typical references only. The governing specification is the one on your purchase order or datasheet.
| Property | Typical reference |
|---|---|
| Standards | API 610 (petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas), ASME B73.1 (chemical process) |
| Materials | Cast iron, carbon steel, stainless steel or alloy, per the fluid |
| Data to give | Fluid, flow, head, temperature, NPSH available and driver |
Specification references describe what the order names, not a certification held by JJ Projects.

- 02Charge, reflux and booster services in refineries and gas plants
- 03Cooling water and utility circulation
- 04Replacement of existing pumps with a matching baseplate and nozzle layout
What to include in a request
A request with these details can be quoted without a round of questions. Send what you have and we will ask for the rest.
- 01Fluid and its properties: density, viscosity, vapor pressure, temperature, and solids or corrosives
- 02Flow rate, normal and rated, and the differential head or pressure
- 03Suction conditions, including the NPSH available
- 04Pump standard: API 610 or ASME B73.1, and the type, for example overhung, between-bearings or vertical
- 05Materials of casing, impeller and shaft, and the seal arrangement
- 06Driver: electric motor, with power and area classification, or other, plus baseplate and coupling
- 07Testing and documents: performance test, hydrostatic test, curves, data sheets and the material test reports required

Questions
Questions
01What is NPSH and why is it asked for?
Net positive suction head available is the pressure margin above the fluid vapor pressure at the pump suction. It must exceed the NPSH required by the pump, with a margin, or the pump can cavitate. The supplier checks it against the pump curve.
02What is the difference between API 610 and ASME B73.1 pumps?
API 610 covers heavy-duty centrifugal pumps for petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries. ASME B73.1 covers horizontal end-suction pumps for chemical process service, in a lighter duty. Your specification names the standard.
03Do you select the pump?
The pump is sourced from a manufacturer to your datasheet and duty point. Selection against the curve is done by the manufacturer from the data in the request, so the more complete the datasheet, the fewer questions come back.
Send the specification. We will take it from there.
